Hero Deputy Murdered During Routine Response

Deputy Devin Jaramillo, 27, was responding to what appeared to be a standard traffic crash on November 7, 2025, at approximately 3:53 p.m. in Southwest Miami-Dade when he encountered pure evil. Steven David Rustrian, 21, engaged the deputy in a violent physical altercation during which he managed to disarm Jaramillo and shoot him in the neck with his own service weapon. Jaramillo was immediately transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect then turned the weapon on himself, ending his own life at the scene.
