Vice President Harris Promotes Amnesty Plan For Illegal Immigrants

Vice President Kamala Harris is promoting a mass amnesty plan that could provide citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. During an interview on Fox News, Harris spoke positively about the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, a sweeping piece of legislation introduced by President Joe Biden on his first day in office.

The bill would grant “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” status to illegal immigrants, allowing them to work legally in the U.S. and apply for green cards after five years. Three years later, they would be able to apply for U.S. citizenship.

The plan would benefit an estimated 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants currently residing in the U.S., giving them a faster path to citizenship. Farmworkers, DACA recipients, and those on Temporary Protected Status would receive immediate green cards and be eligible for citizenship within three years.

Harris defended the amnesty plan, stating that immigration reform has been a priority for the Biden administration since the beginning. She emphasized that providing a legal path to citizenship would allow these immigrants to contribute to the economy and, eventually, vote if they meet other eligibility requirements.

A controversial part of the bill would allow illegal immigrants deported during President Donald Trump’s administration to return to the U.S. and apply for amnesty, provided they had been in the country for three years prior to their deportation. The legislation also proposes replacing the term “alien” with “noncitizen” in federal immigration law.
