President Donald Trump’s administration has compelled Colombia to accept deportation flights after initially refusing to take back their citizens. The White House confirmed the agreement, highlighting Trump’s commitment to strong immigration policies and enforcement.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro had previously ordered that U.S. military flights carrying deported nationals be denied entry. Trump responded by imposing a 25% tariff on Colombian imports and implementing travel bans on officials tied to Petro’s administration. The pressure proved effective, leading Colombia to reverse its decision.

Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo later announced that arrangements had been made to facilitate the return of deportees, including the use of Colombia’s presidential aircraft. He stated that the government was working to “resolve the situation in cooperation with U.S. authorities.”

The White House acknowledged Colombia’s change of position but stated that other measures, such as enhanced customs inspections, would remain in place until deportation flights are successfully carried out.
