Four members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua have been arrested after a robbery in Northwest Dallas where they stole $75,000 in jewelry. The robbery occurred on September 21 when the suspects attacked a woman in her garage and then forced her into her home, tying her up and stealing her jewelry.
The suspects were identified as Yean Brayhan Torralba, 20, Alberto Martinez Silva, 34, Manuel Hernandez-Hernandez, 28, and Wilmer Colmenares Gonzalez, 27. Police were able to locate the suspects using surveillance footage and fingerprints from the scene. Gonzalez, however, barricaded himself inside a house, leading to a tense eight-hour standoff with police before his arrest.
Tren de Aragua, which has its roots in Venezuela, has expanded its reach into the United States as members entered the country amid the recent migrant surge. The gang is known for its involvement in human trafficking, drug smuggling and armed robberies, leading to growing concerns among U.S. law enforcement agencies.
In some instances, members of the gang have used migrant shelters in major cities like New York to stage their criminal operations. The arrests in Texas signal the gang’s increasing footprint in the country and the need for enhanced law enforcement coordination to combat their activities.
