Tim Walz Backs David Hogg For DNC Vice Chair To Drive Party Reform

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) has endorsed activist David Hogg for vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, signaling a push for fresh leadership as the Democratic Party recovers from its 2024 election defeat. Walz believes that Hogg’s activism and bold leadership style can bring much-needed change to the party.

“David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic and courageous leadership the Democratic Party needs right now,” Walz stated. He emphasized Hogg’s ability to energize voters and speak directly to the concerns of Americans.

Walz, who campaigned alongside Hogg during his failed presidential run, believes Hogg’s leadership is what the party needs to win future elections. “This is exactly what we need right now, experienced, thoughtful and energized leadership that meets people where they are and takes bold action to win,” Walz added.

Hogg first gained national attention after surviving the Parkland school shooting and later co-founding March for Our Lives. His vocal stance on gun control has made him a prominent figure in progressive circles, though he remains a divisive figure among critics.

In response to Walz’s support, Hogg expressed his appreciation. “Ever since the shooting at my high school, he’s been a champion for the gun violence prevention movement,” Hogg said. He also praised Walz as “a good, decent man” who has consistently supported efforts to create safer communities.

Walz’s endorsement of Hogg follows his recent support for Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin’s campaign for DNC chair. This move suggests that Walz is actively working to shape the party’s leadership and future direction.

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) has also endorsed Hogg, reflecting growing support among younger Democrats seeking a shift toward progressive activism and leadership.

As Democrats look to rebuild after their recent setbacks, Walz’s endorsement of Hogg highlights a strategic shift toward youthful and energetic leadership aimed at reshaping the party’s future.
