Texas Delegate Robbed At Gunpoint During Democratic Convention In Crime-Plagued Chicago

A Texas delegate attending the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning, highlighting the city’s ongoing crime crisis. The delegate, accompanied by a friend, was approached by two masked gunmen around 2 a.m. in downtown Chicago. The assailants, who arrived in a dark blue Range Rover, threatened to shoot the victims unless they handed over their belongings.

After robbing the delegate, the suspects targeted two additional victims across the street before fleeing the scene. The criminals, described as two Black males dressed in all black with ski masks and armed with a semi-automatic handgun, are suspected of being connected to a string of similar robberies in the city.

Chicago police issued a community alert Thursday, urging residents to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. The incident underscores the growing concern over violent crime in Chicago, a city that earned the unfortunate title of “murder capital” of the U.S. in 2023. With nearly 1,400 shootings and 344 murders reported this year alone, the city remains a hotbed of violence.

Over the recent weekend, Chicago saw 26 shooting incidents resulting in 30 victims and five deaths. Despite the city hosting a major political event like the DNC, the rampant crime wave continues to cast a dark shadow over Chicago.
