Republicans in the House are calling for an investigation into accusations that FEMA workers skipped Trump-supporting areas during hurricane recovery efforts. Reports allege workers avoided homes and neighborhoods with pro-Trump signs in Florida and North Carolina.
Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) addressed DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari in a letter, citing concerns over FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington’s alleged instructions to bypass homes with Trump campaign signs in Lake Placid, Florida.
Additional reports suggest FEMA teams in North Carolina similarly ignored areas with signs like “Make America Great Again.” Neighborhoods with multiple such signs were reportedly left without notification of available aid.
FEMA Director Deanne Criswell testified last month that the incident in Florida was an isolated case. She emphasized that FEMA does not endorse discrimination and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Washington, dismissed after the allegations surfaced, denied the claims and alleged that other FEMA teams across both states engaged in similar practices. She stated that she is being unfairly blamed for broader issues within the agency.
House Republicans insist on a full investigation, stating that disaster relief efforts must remain impartial and free from political bias to ensure fairness for all Americans.
