Senator-elect Dave McCormick plans to attend Senate orientation despite Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s refusal to recognize his win. McCormick, who defeated Democratic Sen. Bob Casey by over 30,000 votes, was declared the winner by the Associated Press on November 7.
Schumer, however, claims that the race remains undecided due to over 100,000 uncounted ballots. He has refused to invite McCormick to orientation, sparking criticism from Republican leaders who call the move a rejection of legitimate election results.
“Dave McCormick is the new senator for Pennsylvania,” said Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD). “The idea that Schumer would not allow him to participate in Senate orientation is beyond unacceptable.”
National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Steve Daines (R-MT) expressed similar frustration, calling Schumer’s actions “outrageous & a disservice to PA & the country.”
McCormick’s decision to attend orientation reflects confidence in his victory and the GOP’s majority in the next Senate session. Republicans see this as a critical step toward asserting control and addressing Democratic opposition.
As Republicans prepare to lead the Senate, McCormick’s defiance of Schumer underscores the shifting balance of power and the determination of the GOP to deliver on its promises.
