Putin Says Trump’s 2020 Loss Allowed Ukraine War To Happen

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the war in Ukraine would not have occurred if President Donald Trump had not lost the 2020 election. Speaking to Russian media, Putin claimed that Trump’s absence from the White House created conditions that led to the 2022 invasion.

Putin praised Trump as an intelligent leader and suggested that under his presidency, diplomatic solutions could have been pursued instead of military action. He also confirmed that Russia remains open to discussions aimed at resolving the conflict.

The Russian government has continued to blame Western nations for escalating the war by supplying arms to Ukraine. Officials in Moscow argue that this assistance has made diplomatic efforts nearly impossible and has strengthened what they call an “illegitimate” government in Kyiv.

President Donald Trump recently reaffirmed his stance that the war could have been prevented under his leadership. On Truth Social, he warned of potential tariffs and sanctions on Russian exports if a resolution is not reached soon.

Ukraine has responded by rejecting the idea of negotiations without European partners. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office stated that any peace discussions must include key allies and cannot be conducted solely between the US and Russia.

Prior attempts to settle the conflict through diplomatic channels were reportedly hindered by international pressure. Russian officials claim that Ukraine was initially open to negotiations but later withdrew due to outside influence.
