Marjorie Taylor Greene Demands Financial Oversight For Secret Service Failures

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has called on Congress to hold the Secret Service accountable for security lapses by using its budgetary powers. This demand follows the tragic attempted assassination of President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, on July 13, where two people were injured and one person was killed.

Appearing on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show, Greene emphasized the necessity of using Congress’s financial authority to ensure the Secret Service improves its protocols. “We have the power of the purse, and we can hold [the] Secret Service accountable with funding,” she stated.

The recent House hearings investigating the security failures at the rally have so far provided little substantial information. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned shortly after her testimony before the House Oversight Committee, further complicating the situation.

One of the critical issues identified was the absence of a Secret Service agent on the building from which the shooter fired, due to its sloped roof. Additionally, communication failures between local police and the Secret Service raised concerns about the overall security setup.

Greene believes these lapses indicate deeper problems within the Secret Service. “All of these things are evidential proof that there was something more than just a deranged gunman set on killing President Trump,” she commented.

Greene is advocating for a task force with subpoena power to further investigate the incident and ensure that all questions regarding the security failures are answered.

As lawmakers consider their next steps, Greene’s call for stringent oversight highlights the need for the Secret Service to address its shortcomings and enhance its security measures to prevent future incidents.
