Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) expressed deep concerns about the possibility that a victory for President Donald Trump in the 2024 election could be met with opposition from powerful forces, including the military. In a conversation with commentator Tucker Carlson, Vance discussed his belief in Trump’s strong chances of winning but questioned whether the establishment would allow it.
Vance told Carlson that while he is confident Trump will win, the real challenge would come after the election, when the forces of Washington, D.C.’s bureaucracy could work to undermine his presidency. He described the biggest threat to democracy as not Trump’s challenges to the 2020 election, but the way the system is misaligned with much of the American public.
Carlson raised the issue of the military’s potential role, asking if Vance believed they would accept a Trump victory, given the growing influence of establishment figures over the armed forces. Vance admitted, “That’s what worries me,” acknowledging that the bureaucracy could move against Trump’s agenda, particularly if he attempts to enact controversial policies.
Vance referenced the tactics used in 2020, where Big Tech and other entities played a role in silencing negative coverage of Joe Biden, something he expects to happen again in the upcoming election. He also noted that these actions stem more from incompetence than from a calculated plan.
Vance predicted that if Trump follows through on his plans to deport millions of illegal immigrants, opponents will label him “fascist” to discredit the efforts. He also expressed optimism about Trump’s chances, pointing out that Vice President Kamala Harris’ numbers in key states don’t look promising.
Despite the challenges, Vance remains confident that Trump will prevail but cautions that the battle to implement policy could be even more difficult than winning the election.
