James Comey Under FBI Investigation For Alleged Covert Surveillance Of Trump’s 2016 Campaign

FBI Director Kash Patel has launched an investigation into former Director James Comey over allegations that he oversaw a secretive operation to infiltrate Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. The investigation follows whistleblower testimony provided to the House Judiciary Committee, which claims Comey personally ordered undercover FBI agents to embed themselves within the campaign.

The whistleblower alleges that two female agents, described as “honeypots,” were directed to gain access to Trump’s inner circle by forming relationships with campaign officials. This covert mission reportedly began in 2015, before the FBI’s formal investigation into supposed Russian election interference.

Former FBI officials Dave Bowdich and Paul Abbate are also named in the disclosure as individuals who played a role in managing the operation. The whistleblower claims the effort was abruptly halted after a media outlet learned about one of the agents and was preparing to expose her identity.

Patel, who took office as FBI director last week, had previously stated he did not intend to investigate former agency officials. However, the emergence of these allegations has led him to reassess that position. The review aims to determine whether Comey’s reported operation violated FBI regulations or federal law.

The investigation remains separate from past reviews of the FBI’s actions, including the Crossfire Hurricane probe. Neither the FBI nor Comey has issued a public response to the accusations. Patel’s move to pursue the case signals a significant change in the agency’s approach to internal oversight and accountability.
