Governor Calls For Constitutional Amendment To Infringe On Gun Rights

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling for serious new violations of Americans’ Second Amendment rights through an organization he launched, proposing a new amendment to the U.S. Constitution that uses deceptive language to accomplish what Democrats have failed to push through in their multipronged, generational attack on gun rights in America.

In a paid ad on X, formerly Twitter, posted on Newsom’s account, the leftist governor posted a statement written in the first person blaming Congress and the courts for not disregarding the rights guaranteed to Americans in the nation’s founding documents, lamenting, “If Congress and the courts will not take action to help make our communities safer from gun violence, then we – the people – must do it ourselves.”

Newsom’s message continues, proposing what he calls the “Right to Safety Amendment” as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, a terrifying name for anyone familiar with how government enforces “safety.”

“That’s why I’m proposing the Right to Safety Amendment,” the image reads. The amendment described mentions mandating background checks, which are already conducted for gun purchases. But then the governor asserts the amendment would ban “civilian purchases of assault weapons,” an ambiguous — and made up — political word that has no real meaning and, therefore, no real limits.

Newsom also calls for the federal minimum age to buy a firearm to be 21, apparently feeling that a large number of soldiers in the U.S. military should be disarmed.

While the text posted by the governor is paid for by the Campaign For Democracy — an organization launched by Newsom himself — and states that the message is “NOT AUTHORIZED BY ANY CANDIDATE OR CANDIDATE’S COMMITTEE,” the fearmongering post is clearly aimed at raising money that ingratiates the savvy political operator with Democrats across the country as he donates to their campaigns through one of several organizations he is raising money through — he may not run this year, but he’s looking at a presidential run soon.

The assault against the Second Amendment rights by such a well-known political figure, who is far left of center and clearly aiming to run for president in the near future, should give conservatives and independents pause. The ease with which rights guaranteed to us in our founding documents are tossed aside is troubling.

The left’s lawfare isn’t limited to its political opponents, but is being waged against our laws, our culture, our history and the American people.
