FBI Tracks Suspected Terror Cell Following New Orleans Attack

Federal investigators are racing to identify members of a suspected terror cell behind the deadly New Year’s attack in New Orleans. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the alleged attacker, killed at least 10 people and injured 30 in a combined vehicle and shooting assault in the French Quarter early Wednesday morning.

The FBI confirmed that Jabbar had an ISIS flag with him during the attack. Inside his vehicle, authorities found firearms and multiple improvised explosive devices hidden in coolers, wired for remote detonation. A detonator was recovered from the vehicle.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows three men and one woman placing bombs around New Orleans, including in the French Quarter. Federal agents believe Jabbar was part of a coordinated effort and have called for public assistance to track down other suspects.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said during a press briefing that the FBI is “in the process of trying to catch the other bad guys.” Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry echoed this, confirming that law enforcement is actively pursuing leads to apprehend the individuals involved.

Federal agents also searched the home of Jabbar’s ex-wife. Her current husband told reporters that Jabbar had begun acting erratically as he converted to Islam. Officials said they are following all possible connections to determine the extent of Jabbar’s network.

Flight tracking data suggests that the FBI Hostage Rescue Team has been deployed to New Orleans to support the investigation, with reports indicating their quick response capabilities are being utilized to neutralize any ongoing threats.
