Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has advised her former prosecutor and ex-lover, Nathan Wade, not to cooperate fully with the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into her office’s handling of the Trump election interference case. Wade, who is scheduled to testify, has been instructed to assert legal protections to avoid revealing certain details.
Willis wrote to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the committee’s chairman, expressing concern that Wade’s testimony could divulge privileged information. Wade played a key role in the Trump prosecution, which has been surrounded by legal challenges and controversy.
The House committee is investigating whether Willis used over $14.6 million in Department of Justice grants to fund the prosecution of Trump. The timing of the grants, issued between 2020 and 2023, has raised questions about their potential political use.
Wade stepped down from the Trump case earlier this year after a judge ruled that his romantic relationship with Willis created an “appearance of impropriety.” Although no actual conflict of interest was found, the situation has cast doubt on the integrity of the prosecution.
Trump’s legal team continues to argue that the case is politically motivated, part of an effort to stop him from running for office again. The House investigation aims to uncover whether Willis’s office acted improperly in pursuing the charges.
