A Department of Justice Inspector General report accuses Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) of leaking classified materials to the media to promote the Russia collusion narrative against President Donald Trump. The report alleges the FBI failed to act despite being aware of the leaks.
The report states a whistleblower, who worked as a Democratic staffer, identified Schiff and Swalwell as key figures in the leaks. The whistleblower claimed Schiff had a history of leaking classified information and that Swalwell sought to influence public perception by sharing confidential materials.
Michael Bahar, a senior Democratic staffer, was also named in the report. Bahar allegedly communicated classified information to multiple journalists, leading to published stories that amplified the Russia hoax claims.
The FBI reviewed communications from over 40 congressional staffers during its investigation, including Democrats and Republicans. However, no charges were filed despite evidence of misconduct.
Republicans are demanding further investigations, arguing the FBI’s failure to act highlights a double standard in the handling of classified leaks. Critics contend Schiff and Swalwell’s actions undermined national security and abused their positions of power.
The revelations add to ongoing scrutiny of Schiff and Swalwell, both of whom were outspoken proponents of the Russia collusion theory. Republicans are calling for accountability to ensure such leaks are not repeated in the future.
