Catholic leaders are raising alarms about Vice President Kamala Harris’ record on issues related to religious freedom and Catholic values. Harris, identified as the most liberal Senator in 2019, has taken stances that conflict with Catholic teachings, prompting organizations like Students for Life of America and the Lepanto Institute to voice their concerns.
During her tenure as California attorney general, Harris targeted pro-life journalist David Daleiden after his investigative work on Planned Parenthood’s alleged sale of fetal tissue. As a U.S. Senator, she criticized a judicial nominee for his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization opposed to abortion and same-sex marriage.
The Biden-Harris administration has been criticized for its enforcement of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which has been used disproportionately against pro-life activists following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. The administration also established a Reproductive Rights Task Force to oversee compliance with the FACE Act.
Additionally, the DOJ issued a memo targeting Catholics attending Traditional Latin Masses, labeling them as potential extremists, and parents protesting radical gender ideologies in schools were branded as domestic terrorists. Harris’s support for policies that compel Catholic hospitals to perform abortions and transgender surgeries further underscores her contentious stance on issues of religious freedom.
Catholic leaders argue that Harris’s policies and actions reflect a broader agenda that undermines Catholic values and threatens religious liberty. They warn that her track record poses a significant risk to the rights of religious organizations and individuals committed to upholding their faith-based principles.
