Charleston Chefs Deliver Holiday Hope To NC Storm Victims

Charleston area restaurants expanded relief efforts to provide Thanksgiving meals for Hurricane Helene survivors still struggling across western North Carolina.

Nick Mead witnessed desperate conditions while delivering food to mountain communities last month. “Finding families in tents without basic necessities changed our perspective entirely,” he said.

The initiative gained support as fellow restaurateur Graham Calabria joined planning efforts. Together, they recruited regional establishments to prepare 1,500 pounds of turkey for affected areas.

Miller’s All Day and Lewis Barbeque committed significant resources toward the project. “Professional cold storage ensures safe transport to isolated locations,” Calabria said.

Danny Lee, coordinating ground distribution, stressed urgent winter requirements. “Beyond holiday meals, basic survival gear becomes crucial as temperatures fall,” he said.

Organizers established littleswitzerlandrelief.org for ongoing assistance. “One delivery helps today, but communities need sustained support,” Mead said.

The platform connects volunteers with various aid opportunities. “Recovery takes dedication from surrounding regions,” Calabria said.

Mountain residents express continued gratitude. “Each delivery reminds us we’re not forgotten,” said a Spruce Pine resident who lost her home.
