New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that surveillance cameras have been installed in all subway cars in New York City. Hochul said the initiative is already helping law enforcement resolve crimes faster.
The project was launched as part of a broader effort to address safety concerns tied to violent incidents on public transit. Hochul also deployed 250 more National Guard members in December, increasing the number of patrols in the subway system to 1,000.
NY governor touts increased surveillance amid MTA mayhem: Cameras in 'every single subway car' a camera in every subway car won't stop crime. In NYC, any footage probably will not even make it into a courtroom. https://t.co/sQVmNAZfxt

Hochul tied much of the violence to untreated mental health issues, citing decades of insufficient investment in care and housing. She proposed expanding the criteria for involuntary commitment, stating that current laws leave many individuals without proper treatment.

Recent subway crimes, including the trial of Daniel Penny for intervening in a threatening situation and the death of a woman burned alive, have raised alarm among commuters. Hochul emphasized that these incidents highlight the need for increased safety measures.
By installing cameras in every NYC subway car, Gov. Hochul has relegated police to uniformed janitors. No word on what Hochul is doing to protect citizens *before* they're murdered by illegal alien killers.
Maybe give them *more* victim's taxes? đ¤https://t.co/3o4jDrOHGw

The surveillance project complements other initiatives to address safety, with Hochul calling public safety her top priority. She noted that the cameras are already proving effective in solving cases and deterring criminal activity.

Cameras won't prevent crime. They would help prosecute the criminals IF NYC did such a thing. But they don't. Gov Hochul is not serious.

Under Hochulâs direction, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority completed the installation, a move she said reflects her administrationâs commitment to tackling the transit violence crisis.
