Newly confirmed Attorney General Pam Bondi is moving quickly to implement President Donald Trump’s agenda at the Department of Justice, focusing on two key issues: sanctuary cities and politically driven prosecutions.
One of Bondi’s first moves was establishing the Weaponization Working Group, which will conduct an extensive review of federal law enforcement agencies. This group will examine cases related to January 6 and assess whether DOJ officials pursued prosecutions for political reasons.
Bondi has also taken strong action against sanctuary cities, ordering an immediate suspension of federal funding for jurisdictions that refuse to comply with federal immigration law. This move ensures that cities shielding illegal immigrants will no longer receive taxpayer dollars.
In addition to investigating January 6 prosecutions and sanctuary city policies, Bondi has instructed DOJ officials to review past legal actions to identify individuals who may have used their positions for political purposes. This review is expected to result in personnel changes within the department.
The Trump administration has made it clear that ending politically motivated prosecutions and enforcing immigration laws will remain a priority. Bondi’s first days in office demonstrate her commitment to carrying out that agenda without delay.
With additional directives expected in the near future, Bondi’s leadership is setting the stage for a major overhaul of federal law enforcement under Trump’s administration.
